Reading Resources for Teachers and Parents

Readers unite! This week we are highlighting a few tools to support readers in your classroom. We have lots of resources and fun ways to interact with other students! Let’s get reading!

CommonLit

First up is CommonLit. This free resource has a huge library of stories, articles, and poems for students from grades 3–12. There are a variety of ways to search for what you need from text sets to literary devices. You are able to translate the different writing pieces and easily share them with your students. CommonLit also connects with Google Classroom or you can print the pieces of writing as needed. There are so many ways to get kids reading with this site!

Biblionasium

If you are looking to get your students to share what they are reading or ways to challenge your students, Biblionasium is great for classrooms. This site is basically GoodReads for younger students. The teacher is more involved and supports accounts. You can also share the information with parents so that they can track what their child is reading and what classroom challenges are going on. It is a fantastic resource to get students sharing what they read!

AdLit

Lastly, a site to support teachers and parents with reading is AdLit! There are great articles on teaching strategies and assessment preparation. It is helpful for new teachers and a great refresher for those that have been teaching a while. Take a peek and see what you can find!

Reading resources are so important for our students and it is one of the questions I get asked about the most. These sites are helpful for both teachers and parents. Feel free to share them with others!
